Why do this Sports First Aid Course?

Our training is provided by Davie Jenkins of Sports Therapy Scotland, who has over a decades experience in dealing with professional sports injuries and physiotherapy. His wide ranging experience includes working pitch side in football as well as rehabilitation and treatment in the Scottish Premier League and is currently working with Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Football League. Davie has also been called upon on many occasions to be at ringside for on the spot assistance for professional fights and is currently working with The Braehead Clan - Elite Ice hockey - British League. This has given Davie a wide range of experience in dealing with traumatic and acute sports injuries. Davie is a registered therapist with Aviva and is a graduate Sports Therapist with BSc (Hons) Applied Sports Therapy from University of Teesside.

Purpose:

This course was specifically to deal with sports injuries including , resuscitation , casualty handling, treatment of shock, treatment of bleeding and acute injury management and also offers acute and chronic tissue handling.

The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide suitable first-aid equipment, facilities and personnel to enable immediate assistance to be given to employees if they are injured or become ill at work.

Regulation 3(2) states that in order to provide first aid to injured or ill employees, '..a person shall not be suitable unless he has undergone -

Such training and has such qualifications as the Health and Safety Executive may approve for the time being in respect of that case or class of case, and such additional training, if any, as may be appropriate in the circumstances of that case'

Additionally this course focuses on track-side injuries and treatments, paying attention to the application of ice and the treatment of acute and chronic injuries.

Target Audience

• Staff who work in sports such as gym instructors /personal trainers and coaches or those who have an interest in working in this area.
• Staff who are updating their First Aid at Work Certificate prior to renewing.
• Staff who have been identified as providing emergency first aid at work.
